Release Radar: Rigil's The Sanctuary EP is an embrace of vulnerability and creation

Updated: Aug 3, 2021

North London native, Rigil released an electrifying new single The Sanctuary EP including an alternative version and a beautiful remix by Owen Gray. Rigil's music is written and recorded in his North London loft, encompassing elements of chaos within his environment, from moments of bad weather where the rain hits the roof and ruins the takes to people passing by. Sanctuary follows the release of two singles earlier this year Concertina Heart on Dynamophone Records and Arrythmia on Tummy Touch Records along with his debut single Black Clay earlier this year.

On the release. Rigil said "The song is all about crafting safe spaces and creating our own sanctuaries. The track was built around a vocal melody that I had in my head whilst exploring Epping Forest with my dog. I recorded a rough take on my phone, then layered it up to create a nice bed for the song. This is what you can hear in the intro and throughout the track. My interest in Sanctuaries stems from the idea that they don't have to be physical locations. Everyone's safe spaces are different but we all face the tricky decision around sharing it and letting others in. This song conjures up a shared sanctuary, when you've opened up the doors and let someone else in to enjoy what you've created."
