Fire Talk Records announce Open Tab, their new digital singles imprint. Highlighting one previously unreleased track from an artist monthly, each Open Tab release will also encapsulate a short Q&A profile and mix created by the artist. With an emphasis on new music, the imprint will further lend itself as a discovery tool for listeners worldwide as well as an opportunity to give a platform to artists whose work Fire Talk is enthusiastic about. Today, Open Tab presents three new tracks - Fake Fruit’s “I Am The Car,” Maria BC’s “Now It’s Gone,” and Shallowhalo’s “Hypnotize.” In celebration, Fire Talk will host an Open Tab launch party on August 5th at Brooklyn’s Purgatory.




Throughout Fake Fruit’s “I Am the Car,” lead vocalist Hannah D'Amato's acerbic wit is bitingly emphatic, providing a necessary vantage point into the absurdities and emotion of human connection. The track takes the best of the band’s keen ear for melody and flips it into an impossibly catchy anthem that’s full of melancholic yearning. The trio’s “electrifying” (Pitchfork) brand of nervy guitars and call-and-return vocals have made them one of the new names to know in indie rock.




“Now It's Gone” is by San Francisco by-way-of New York artist Maria BC. Hailed by Pitchfork as "close and visceral", and "part Norah Jones, part Annie Lennox" (Bandcamp), their music relays a juncture of ambient textures and poignantly ethereal vocals that shine through to create glimmers of hope and healing. “Now It’s Gone” continues on in this profoundly unassuming manner: naturally materializing in emotional soundscapes that are both deliberately sparse and painstakingly intimate.



“Hypnotize” is the new single from Shallowhalo (moniker of producer/songwriter Allyson Camitta). The track champions her own specific brand of synth pop paired with EZTV’s Ezra Tennebaum’s polished production. Her music glows with an icy veneer and fully visualized aesthetic that showcases a fashion background and influences by both the bubblegum goth of Strawberry Switchblade and Spanish pop groups. Her cheery synths provide a contrast to her calculated lyrical and symbolize a fresh reinvention of pop noir.
