Featured Music Video: Ian Sweet Covers Coldplay's Yellow

Earlier this year, IAN SWEET (project of Jilian Medford) released her new album, Show Me How You Disappear, via Polyvinyl. Its accolades include high praise from Pitchfork, NPR Music, New Yorker, NYLON, FLOOD, and more, plus much fanfare. Today, she presents an otherworldly cover of “Yellow” by Coldplay (one of her favorite bands) with an accompanying video. Like Show Me How You Disappear, whose “best songs swell in your chest like prime-era Broken Social Scene” (Pitchfork), her cover of “Yellow” feels cathartic. Produced by Daniel Fox, her voice surges over twinkling keys and anthemic percussion and guitar. The accompanying self-directed video, shot by Will Duncan, mimics the original Coldplay video by James Frost and Alex Smith of The Artists Company. “I've seen Coldplay live 6 times,” says Medford. “Parachutes was the first CD I ever rented from the library and it changed my life. I owe a lot of who I am, and the way I write and perform music to Coldplay. I wanted to cover ‘Yellow’ because it is my go-to karaoke song, love song, breakup song, feel good song...it's everything.”
